A Look Inside Our Ranch

Less than 1% of the American population is involved in production agriculture. We know this may be one of the few opportunities you have to buy your food directly from a farmer or rancher. We strive to be transparent about the food you eat so you can make informed decisions about what to feed your family.

How We Raise Our Cattle

All cattle start their lives on grass pastures. Our calves are born on native rangeland in New Mexico and stay with their mothers while their ruminant stomachs develop from a milk-based diet to a forage-based diet. We wean the calves when they are seven to nine months old and allow them to continue to grow on pasture.

Grass Finished vs. Grain Finished

Finishing is a term used by professionals in the beef industry to describe the process of cattle accumulating the external and intramuscular fat that gives beef flavor. The main difference between our grass finished beef and our grain finished beef is the diet of the animal before harvesting. Unless specifically marked, the beef sold in grocery stores is grain finished. We at Carruth Cattle give our customers the option to choose their preferred finishing method to fit their specific tastes.

All-Natural, Hormone Free

Labels can be confusing. Some labels, like all-natural, can have different meanings to different people. Some labels, like organic, mean specific things and are regulated by a governing body. Our beef is all-natural and hormone free which means we make a commitment to you that we will not feed or introduce our cattle to any non-organic substances besides those absolutely necessary for the animal’s health and well-being.

Sustainability

We are stewards of the land. No one understands the high stakes involved in conserving the environment better than the people who have made a living off the land for generations. We utilize tried-and-true conservation practices, like rotational grazing, to ensure we give back to the land as much as we take. As cattle ranchers, we cultivate healthy soils and provide habitat for wildlife so the land we borrow from future generations will continue to thrive.
