Frequently Asked Questions
Custom Beef
Q: Do you do delivery?
A: Yes, we offer local delivery upon request. Call for more information about delivery outside our local area.
Q: How much beef can I expect to receive from my purchase of a half beef?
A: How many pounds of freezer beef you receive from your order is dependent on a lot of different factors. An animal’s breed, age, finish (amount of fat), and size all play an important part. At Carruth Cattle, we also offer custom harvesting for our whole, half, and quarter beef customers, allowing you to determine how many specific cuts of meat you receive.
The following estimate will vary depending on the factors discussed above and your custom harvesting choices. From an animal that has been harvested and yields a 300 to 325 pound carcass you can expect to receive 14 T-bones or New York Strip steaks (per half a beef), 14 Rib Eye Steaks (per half a beef), 6-8 Chuck Roasts, 4-6 Arm and Rump Roasts, 1 large or 2 half Briskets, and 65-70 pounds of 1 pound packages of lean Ground Beef. Other cuts included may include Stew Meat, Cubed Steak, Short Ribs, and more. Again, it is important to keep in mind that everyone’s order will look different as it is customized to your unique preferences.

Q: How much freezer space will I need to fit a half or quarter beef?
The rule of thumb is one cubic foot of freezer space for every 35 - 40 pounds of packaged meat. A quarter beef will easily fit into a 5 - 7 cubic foot chest freezer. A half beef needs about 8 cubic feet.
Q: How much does a whole, half or quarter beef cost?
Prices are dependent on weight of the animal. Please contact us for pricing.
Q: Are your cattle grass fed or grain fed?
All of our cattle start out grass fed on our pastures. We generally offer grain finished beef. If you would like your beef grass finished, we offer that option as well.
